2020 Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area Universities Online Open Course Alliance annual meeting was held in Jinan University on December 19. The reporter solved that the development and construction of online open education course alliance for students of universities in the Greater Bay Area and cooperation were further strengthened through the alliance member universities to 82, which mainly includes 7 universities in Hong Kong and Macao. At the same time to start the alliance quality class project, gather academicians, national master teachers and other alliance quality teachers, in the Bay Area to form a series of lectures.

Song Yi, a first-class inspector of the Department of Higher Education of China’s Ministry of Education, said that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area has more than 180 universities and more than 3 million students, with a very strong foundation for higher education. Hong Kong has many famous universities with strong basic research and high level of internationalization, Guangdong has a full range of university types with high quality students and good industrial conditions, and the University of Macau has distinctive Portuguese characteristics and unique tourism disciplines. According to him, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Universities Online Open Course Alliance serves as an interconnected online open course construction application community for regional universities.

The consortium has built a “one-stop service” course platform, collaborated across universities to build course clusters to meet different needs, built an effective course construction, application and promotion mechanism, promoted various forms of intra-university course sharing, and promoted the construction and application of online open courses in universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. It has effectively deepened the interaction and cooperation among the universities in the three places.

According to Zhang Ronghua, chairman of the alliance and vice president of Jinan University, during the epidemic, the alliance gathered 1,600 courses in a short period of time to support member universities to carry out online teaching and provide online teaching method training in collaboration with member universities; benefiting teachers more than 200,000 times. The alliance continues to promote the sharing of inter-college credit courses among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, and has carried out three semesters of inter-college credit course elective work, with 40 participating universities, 510 cumulative elective courses and 57,000 cumulative students taking inter-college courses.

At the meeting, the alliance announced the list of 19 new member universities, including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Open University of Hong Kong.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Universities Online Open Courses Alliance was established on November 24, 2018 under the guidance of Guangdong Provincial Department of Education and the joint initiative of 11 universities, including Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Jinan University and South China Normal University, with 62 existing member universities, including 5 universities in Hong Kong and Macao.
